Why didn't I think of that sooner?

You know how sometimes you discover that the solution to a long-nagging problem has been right there staring you in the face all along? Sometimes it is even so obvious that you are torn between being thrilled at fixing the problem & being embarrassed that you didn't see it earlier.

I had one of those moments this weekend.


I got this bag on a trip to Maine with my grandparents many, many years ago. It resurfaced when going through boxes a couple years ago. At first I thought, "Yay! Perfect knitting bag, with added bonus of reminding me of a fun trip with my grandparents." That thought was quickly followed by, "Bummer! Velcro. Long strip of Velcro. Boo, hiss. Not good for yarn afterall"





I figured I would just use it as a bookbag, & it's been sitting by my computer desk for a while. I had a Eureka! moment yesterday, though. "Ohhhhh. Duh! I can just snip the yarn-snagging side of the velcro out." Once it was removed, this bag is now suitable as a knitting bag. Yay!

Besides bringing back happy memories of my grandparents, I also love how this bag has a zippered pocket inside it. That's not something canvas bags usually have nowadays.

Sunday Snow

Instead of Saturday Sky for this past weekend, here are pictures of our Easter Sunday Snow.

We woke up to a dusting of snow, which had my kids singing silly, made-up songs about Dreaming of a White Easter. Then it snowed like crazy while we were in church, but that first batch melted away by lunch-time.


It was a typical spring-time snow, in that it didn't stick to the roads or driveways. However, we had several different snowshowers over the course of the day, so we did end up with a tiny bit staying overnight, though most of it melted almost right away.

Saturday Sky from March 15th, 2008

The buds on the trees promise Spring, but the grey sky promises rain, which we have had plenty of here this week.

Socks on Saturday

Besides the items I posted yesterday, I have also finished two more pairs of socks since the ones I posted in the middle of February.


For this pair, it was a matter of finishing the second sock, & then Kitchenering both of them. I started the first one all the way back last summer, for Summer of Socks 2007. The yarn is hand-dyed, bought on Etsy, in the color "The Owl", from Dharmafey of Cosmic Fibers.





This pair was knit doing both socks at once. The yarn is also hand-dyed, but purchased at one of my local yarn shops. The yarn company is Pagewood Farms, available at Kirkwood Knittery, in the colorway "Crayon."

Finished Objects Friday

I actually have several finished objects to share this Friday, given how long it's been since I've managed to put knitting content up on my blog.

Saturday Sky for March 8th, 2008

We ended up still having quite a bit of snow left on Saturday, though it's all gone now. (Hurrah! for actual spring-like weather this week.)





I promise my next post will have actual knitting content.

10 Hours

What a difference a day makes. The first set of pictures was taken just after 7 o'clock this morning; the second set just after 5 o'clock this afternoon. The temperature was only in the 40's today, but between that & the sunshine, it made quite a dent in the foot of snow we got yesterday.

Another Snow Day

Only in Missouri can we have temperatures in the 70's on Sunday & a foot or so of snow on Tuesday. There's been lots of snow & ice so far this year, which has made for quite a bit of extra knitting time. Yes, I have been knitting -- I just haven't managed to blog about it much. Most of my projects for the year are up on my Ravelry account, though.

Saturday Sky, March 1st 2008

This past weekend the weather was so nice that I nearly forgot to take a Saturday Sky picture. We had near record warm temperatures this past weekend. Today, just two days later, we've got a sleet/snow storm & I'm staying home with the kids because they have a snow day off school.
